FIFA Suspends Spanish FA President Luis Rubiales From All Football-Related Activities For Kissing Jenni Hermoso At Women’s World Cup Final
Football’s highest governing body, the International Federation of Football Associations has placed a 90-day suspension on the President for the Spanish Football Association, Luis Rubiales for kissing Jenni Hermoso at the Women’s World Cup Final.
The suspension comes after Luis Rubiales refused to heed to calls on him to resign as Spain FA president.
According to him, he isn’t going to resign as he didn’t kiss the player out of malice and has duly apologized even though it was a “consensual” kiss.
Meanwhile, Jenni Hermoso has issued a press release explaining that, even though she did not shove off the president, the kiss “was never, consensual”
She added that some high powers have been exerting pressure on her to cover up for Luis Rubiales and lie that she consented to the kiss.
Luis Rubiales has been suspended from all football-related activities for the next 90 days, pending the decision of FIFA Disciplinary Committee after their ongoing investigations.
“This suspension, which will be effective as of today, is for an initial period of 90 days, pending the disciplinary proceedings opened against Mr. Luis Rubiales on Thursday, August 24.”, a part of FIFA’s press release which communicated the suspension read.
Additionally, the FA president and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) have been banned from directly or through their agents or any third party from contacting the player, “in order to preserve, among other factors, the fundamental rights of the national soccer team player Ms. Jennifer Hermoso and the good order of the disciplinary proceedings before this disciplinary body”
The Spanish FA President, Luis Rubiales kissed Jenni Hermoso on the lips during Spain’s post-match celebrations after the Spanish Women Team beat their English rivals to secure the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Several persons, especially feminist across the world have called on the FA president to resign.
