Stonebwoy Still Believes He Won Artiste of the Year in 2019
3 years after he was disqualified from the award, Stonebwoy says he still believes he won Artiste of the Year at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs).
The dancehall/reggae star was disqualified from the award after he pulled a gun on stage during a scuffle with his rival, Shatta Wale. As a result, the VGMA board decided not to award the Artiste of the Year award to anyone that year.
However, Stonebwoy told TV3’s New Day that he still believes he won the award. “I still think that I won the artiste of the year in 2019 but maybe one day they will hand it over,” he said.
The BHIM Nation president also acknowledged his achievements in the past, saying that he has won several awards and has been nominated for many more. “I’ve won a lot of awards and I’ve been nominated for a lot of awards,” he said. “I’m grateful for all the support I’ve received from my fans and the industry.”
Stonebwoy is currently nominated for three awards at the 2023 VGMAs: Artiste of the Year, Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year, and Collaboration of the Year. He will be hoping to win at least one of these awards when the ceremony takes place on May 27th.
In the meantime, Stonebwoy is continuing to work on new music and is planning to tour the world in support of his latest album, Anloga Junction.
